WAHOO Jump!
Rapid Descent Drop Zone is the home of the "Wahoo Jump"! What is this you ask? It's what we call your first tandem jump. We had one of our first tandem students yell "wahoooo" going out the door and the name stuck! After all "tandem skydive" doesn't describe this experience at all! Granted it is an instructional introductory jump but it's purpose is to truly experience the ultimate thrill of skydiving! Rapid Descent has an experienced, fun and professional staff with nothing less than first class equipment. If you have ever thought about skydiving the time is now! Contact us and come check out what's going on! This is an opportunity you don't want to miss!
What to expect
| You will be paired with an instructor who will give you some basic ground instruction including skydiving, canopy (parachute) flying, safety procedures and gear fitting and operation. This orientation usually takes about 30 minutes and then you are ready for the experience of a lifetime! We have professional videographers that can video this entire experience so it can be enjoyed many times over. Check out our video gallery for some samples. |

When it is time for your load, you will be escorted to the aircraft by your instructor. Once everyone is situated and buckled in, the aircraft will taxi out and begin the ascent to over 10,000 feet. This is a thrill for most in itself as Rapid Descent uses restored classic aircraft from Barron Aviation, one of the premier classic aircraft specialists in the world. Most people never get a chance to ride in any of these aircraft! |
| When approaching what we call "jump run" your instructor will get you hooked up and perform the final safety checks, then get you positioned in the doorway. Now it's time for the fun stuff! On the signal of the instructor it's out the door! WAHOOOOO! This initial phase of freefall is the most awesome experience...one you will never forget. |

As soon as you are stabilized your instructor will deploy the drone chute. This is a small chute that trails along behind you for added stability during freefall. You will have time to look around and really get the idea of what freefall is all about. There is no way to describe this in words but it really is like flying...FAST! |
| Around 4,500 feet your instructor will signal and the parachute will be deployed. With this much altitude you will have plenty of time to see what canopy flying is like. You will get to make several turns and practice flaring which is used when landing. Around 1000 feet you will begin to circle downwind of the landing zone and then in for a landing. After landing is when it all soaks in and you realize what you have just done and how awesome it was! |
